the author of the article i read had some very good points. Spiegelman didnt want his book to be mundane and just another holocaust story about people dieing. he wanted people to feel the atroscity and death surroinding the holocaust by seperating the artist and his reader through small pictures and descriptions. The use of pictures and some dry humor help people understand how evil and destructive the holocaust was.
by using a graphic novle spiegelman could portray how he felt without having the reader dive too deep into something and still enjoy the book that he was writing. also in order to get the dark gruesome feeling across to the reader my idea is that he drew in black and white. the book can be very dark and gruesome at times and severly depressed the reader if the reader could understand the horrors of the book
